Telefonica International Wholesale Services signs cooperation agreement with SingTel

To provide Latin American coverage for SingTel's VPN services

Madrid, August 9th, 2004.- Telefonica International Wholesale Services and Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) announced today that they have signed an agreement whereby Telefonica Wholesale will provide SingTel with connectivity in Latin America.

This agreement will permit the creation of virtual networks throughout Latin America, thus increasing geographical coverage for both parties and making Telefonica Wholesale a provider to be reckoned with in both Europe and Latin America.

This agreement is a further endorsement of the close existing relationship between the two parties where Telefonica Wholesale is currently a distributor of SingTel services for Telefonica's extended geographical reach into Asia Pacific to meet its customer requirements.

Initially, SingTel will contract Frame Relay and ATM services over virtual networks terminating in countries where Telefonica Wholesale already has infrastructure; plans are already underway to enhance the service offering through increasing the number of connections by incorporating IPVPN MPLS services.

"Telefonica's extensive international network, particularly its strong foothold in Latin America, along with the reliability and quality of its network, has been a key deciding factor in our choice of provider. SingTel customers' reach into Latin America will be further enhanced through the interconnection of both parties' networks not only in Europe but also in the US. We are delighted to have Telefonica as our strategic partner and we are confident that both our customers will benefit tremendously through this strategic alliance," said Mr. Thomas Yeo, SingTel's Vice President for Corporate Business Marketing.

Telefonica Wholesale's CEO, Mr. Carlos Mariñas, highlighted that "this agreement opens the door to new projects which will enable us in future to be more competitive and move more swiftly in the Asian market, thus expanding our international network coverage."
