Telepresence is a new service that makes it possible to bring together several people or remote locations in such a way as to recreate the sensation of those people being in the same room. The concept of Telepresence is aimed at collaborative work, so that in the business environment, it brings together people, knowledge and work in different groups, even if they are located in remote sites. Telepresence is changing the way that multinational companies collaborate.

To achieve these objectives, Telepresence recreates natural and immersive virtual environments in which users receive sensory stimuli from the remote offices (visual contact, directional stereo sound, high-definition video, real size of participants, etc.), giving the sensation (perception) of being integrated into the same environment.

There is an important difference between Telepresence and Videoconferencing. While it is true that both provide simultaneous two-way audio and video communication between the users of the different locations, Telepresence recreates the atmosphere of a meeting through the conditioning of the rooms and the incorporation of collaborative tools that improve the experiences of the meetings, making the participants feel as though they are in the same physical environment.

Telefonica understands Telepresence as a managed service, so that customers need only to worry about how to use it in their business. So, in the form of a turnkey project, Telefonica will be responsible for:

  • Building the meeting rooms: not just installing the equipment, but recreating the environment in each one of the rooms, to recreate an experience that is as close as possible to a real direct meeting (paint, carpeting, lighting, etc.).
  • Communications: based on Telefonica's IP network, all of the rooms will be connected using the VPN MPLS service, which guarantees the highest quality in terms of communications in a totally secure, private environment.
  • Advanced professional services: for both the design of the solution and the correct management of the implementation, Telefonica provides the finest professionals to make the project a success. The integration of this solution into the customer's current data network, integration with groupware systems to reserve rooms, etc. can also be analysed.
  • Service management: Telefonica will be responsible for the full management of the service, from the coordination of meeting room reservations (if the client requests this), as well as the monitoring and management of the Telepresence equipment, and of course, the communications network. All 24x7, 365 days a year.
